On March 29, 2021, the CSA and IIROC issued Joint CSA/IIROC Staff Notice 21-329: Guidance for Crypto-Asset Trading Platforms: Compliance with Regulatory Requirements (“SN 21-329”). This notice provides guidance on the application of securities legislation to Crypto Asset Trading Platforms that facilitate the trading of either crypto assets (which constitute securities), or other instruments or contracts involving crypto assets. The notice further includes an overview of the applicable existing regulatory requirements which apply to Crypto Asset Trading Platforms.
